William Willis (b. 1943, Sheffield, AL) received a BA & MFA University of South Florida, Tampa. Solo exhibitions include Phillips Collection, DC (10 year survey), Washington Project for the Arts, DC, Weatherspoon Gallery, UNC at Goldsboro, Howard Scott/M-13 Gallery, NY, Rosa Esman Gallery, NY, Bernard Jacobson Gallery, NY, Diane Brown Gallery, DC, Hemphill Fine Arts, DC, Baumgartner Galleries, DC and Reynolds Gallery, Richmond, VA. Group exhibitions include Corcoran Museum, Aldrich Museum, Delaware Art Museum, Grey Gallery, NYU and Marist College Art Gallery. He is represented by Howard Scott Gallery, NY and Hemphill Fine Arts, Washington D.C. Awards include NEA, Pollock-Krasner Foundation, Awards-in-the-Visual-Arts (SECCA) and Maryland State Arts Council. Full-time teaching positions include at University of Maryland, Corcoran College of Art and Design and American University. Visiting artists positions include School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Maryland Institute, College of Art, Pacific Northwest College of Art, Dartmouth College, Brandeis University, Chautauqua, NY, and Almafi Coast Music and Art Festival, Vietri sul Mare, Italy. Collections include Yale Art Gallery, Phillips Collection, J. B. Speed Art Museum, Tucson Art Museum, Corcoran Museum, and University of Maryland Art Museum. Reviews and Articles include New York Times, ArtForum, Art In America, ArtNews, Washington Post, Chronicle of Higher Education, New Art Examiner and Art International. Willis lives and works on Eastern Shore of Maryland.
