Vermont Studio Center Honors the Dalai Lama
“Contemporary Jewels” - Contemporary Tibetan Art at Middlebury College

HHDL with VSC Founders Jon Gregg and Louise von Weise
As a part of the celebrations of the Dalai Lama’s October 12th-13th, 2012 visit to Middlebury College, the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson (VSC) presented “Contemporary Jewels“ a show of Contemporary Tibetan Art at the College’s Davis Family Library.
His Holiness toured the show of the work of 5 Tibetan artists (Tsherin Sherpa, Tenzin Rigdol, Dorje Sherpa, Tenzin Norbu and Palden Weinreb) who have all been 2 month Rubin Fellows at the Studio Center as participants in VSC’s Himalayan Artists Residency Program funded by the Shelley and Donald Rubin Foundation in New York.
VSC Founders Jon Gregg, a 40-year student of Tibetan Buddhism, and Louise von Weise accompanied the Dalai Lama.
The show also includes 7 rare sacred Tibetan texts from the Tibetan Buddhist Resource Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and 3 photographs of Tibetans taken in Tibet by Senator Patrick Leahy.
The Dalai Lama blessed the attending artists and expressed his appreciation for their work and their commitment to transforming their artistic traditions and techniques to relate to the contemporary world in which they find themselves now.
The Contemporary Jewels show will be on view at the Davis Library through January 11th, 2013. For more information on the show, see:
