Ouyang Jianghe
Beijing, China
Chinese poet Ouyang Jianghe was in residence in September (sponsored by the Jintian Literary Fund), along with his translator Austin Woerner, as the first in the Studio Center's International Literature in Translation Program residencies; begun this year and co-sponsored by the Association of Literary Scholars and Critics (ALSC), this program brings distinguished international writers to VSC along with their english translators for a month of intensive solitary and collaborative work. In the clear skies and riverside studios of VSC, Ouyang found a deep and almost mystical solitude and connection with the poetic tradition, and dreamed of making it possible for many Chinese poets to travel to and work at VSC each year. His bi-lingual reading with Austin at the end of September was a wonderful addition to the residency program at VSC.
