Learning in Art & Culture Teacher Fellowships Program
Creative Revitalization Residency Fellowships at Vermont Studio Center for Vermont Visual Arts & English Teachers – October 1, 2009 Application Deadline
[JOHNSON, VT] — The Vermont Studio Center (VSC) will offer three 1-4 week residency fellowships during spring/summer 2010 for Vermont visual art and English teachers interested in developing new creative curricula through the Learning in Art & Culture Teacher Fellowships Program.
The Vermont Studio Center is an international artists and writers residency program dedicated to supporting an international, multicultural and multidisciplinary community of contemporary painters, printmakers, sculptors and writers in their individual creative pursuits for 25 years. Vermont Studio Center’s fellowship fund has brought artists and writers to VSC from 96 countries uniquely positioning it to provide young people and their teachers with exposure to cultural diversity and artistic excellence to support academic achievement.
In its third year, the Learning in Art & Culture Teacher Fellowships Program offers teachers the opportunity to reconnect with their creative process through studio immersion, open studios and readings, slide talks, and mentorship from VSC’s roster of distinguished artists and writers. Fellows will utilize VSC’s artistic, literary and cultural events as a resource to augment their arts education curricula, offering their students firsthand experiences of an international arts community, boosting student engagement in the classroom and the community as a result of increased opportunity for self-expression and cultural exposure. Fellows will receive a modest stipend to support follow-up activities to expose their students to VSC’s cultural richness and diversity and will receive curriculum development and arts education assessment support from the Vermont Department of Education and the New England Arts Assessment Institute. The Learning in Art & Culture Teacher Fellowships Program is supported by the Vermont Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Canaday Family Charitable Trust.
The fellowship application deadline is October 1, 2009. Teachers from the same schools are encouraged to apply. Though preference will be given to single subject art & English teachers in Lamoille County and surrounding areas, all Vermont art and English teachers are eligible. Program participants may be eligible for degree credit depending on their professional development plans.
