Jaclyn Conley

Jaclyn Conley, a painter from Brooklyn, NY, is the recipient of a Sam & Adele Golden Foundation for the Arts Award, a merit-based fellowship award for a painter of outstanding talent.
In the VSC community and away from worldly worries Jaclyn has been amazed at the amount of work she has completed. She has enjoyed being able to indulge in her studio 24 hours/day without other tasks and trivialities. Nonetheless, at the Studio Center Jaclyn doesn’t feel obligated to complete a certain amount of work. As Jaclyn says, “I can come here and see what kind of work happens without the pressure to follow in the steps of the things I have done. It’s a nice, low-pressure way of working that is rare and really helpful.”
“Coming here I didn’t have a set plan about what I wanted to do. I came here and started working in a different scale and started working with materials a little bit differently. I wouldn’t have done that otherwise; I would’ve kept doing what I was doing. Just having this change of space has enabled me to change things up a little bit and experiment. I’ve been working in a smaller scale and trying to pin down some of the imagery and it has been very good to do something that doesn’t have any other obligations; it provides room for experimentation.”
