Public Reading/Slide Talk Date: 04/06/2009

Cora Cohen received a BA and MA from Bennington College. Cohen’s exhibitions include Michael Steinberg Fine Art, New York, Hering Raum Bonn, Germany, Stalke Kirke Sonnerup, Denmark, Jason McCoy, New  York, Rena Bransten Gallery, San Francisco, and Bentley Gallery, Scottsdale.

Stephanie Buhmann describes Cohen's 2004 show at Jason McCoy in the Brooklyn Rail: "Innovative processes and unusual mixed-media cocktails determine the versatile physicality of the works. Layers of oil, raw pigment, copper, pastel, enamel, and graphite manifest on muslin as fluid drippings, bold gushes, thickly applied strokes, or thin washes. Brought together, they spawn a mélange that juxtaposes free expression and accidental flow with conscious mark-making by hand, brush, spatula, or cloth. To find an organic balance between freedom and control, between the embrace of intuitive improvisation and editorial interference, is one of Cohen’s main concerns." (read more)

Cohen lives and works in New York City.
