Carlos Garcia Escobar
Carlos René GarcÍa Escobar is in residence this month (June, 2009) as the first Fellow of the International Writing Program at the Vermont Studio Center. Carlos is working on a non-fiction book about his research in Guatemalan cultural anthropology and traditional dances over the past twenty-five years.
Launched in 2009, this new program will also bring writers from Poland, Taiwan, and China to VSC over the coming year, including both individual residencies and international writer/translator pairs working independently and collaboratively while in residence at VSC.
“The time I have been living here at the Vermont Studio Center has been very pleasant,” says Carlos. “The most important thing everybody respects is the silence around and in all ambientes. You feel like everybody comes here to work intensely on his own. That makes me have the satisfaction of knowing I am in the right place to create art. And that is what we all are doing.“
