Art Shines 2010—VSC presents artwork from local students, featuring students of VSC’s Learning in Art & Culture Program at Johnson Elementary School

Posted on April 30, 2010 by VSC

VSC welcomes the opportunity to host Lamoille North Supervisory Union’s Art Shines 2010 District-wide Art Show, to be held at the VSC’s Barbara White Studios on Main Street in Johnson, Vermont.  The exhibition opens with a reception on Tuesday, May 4th from 5-7.  The exhibition will run May 4, 5, 6, from 10AM - 6PM and May 7, 10AM - 12PM.

The exhibition features student work from the following Lamoille County schools:  Hyde Park Elementary, Waterville Elementary, Cambridge Elementary Lamoille Union Middle School, Lamoille Union High School, Eden Central School, Green Mountain Careers and Technology Center, Johnson Elementary School, and Laraway School. "A Glimpse of China and Japan: Jenny Peck's Photo Exhibit," and the artwork of the Johnson Home Schoolers, taught by VSC’s staff artist Liz Kauffman, will also be featured in the exhibition.

VSC staff artist Arista Alanis and coordinator of VSC’s Learning in Art & Culture Program at Johnson Elementary School has been at work all week selecting and mounting student work for the show. As in past years, the event offers the whole community—students, parents, teachers and community residents—an opportunity to celebrate the artistic endeavors and creative potential of the young people of Lamoille County.

To compliment Art Shines 2010, Green Mountain Technology and Career Center teacher Barbara Flack’s solo show, “A Closer Look at the Edges,” is on view in VSC’s Red Mill Gallery at 80 Pearl Street. The exhibition charts the progression of her creative explorations in photography and painting. Flack is a 2009 Fellow of VSC’s Learning in Art & Culture Teacher Fellowships Program. The program offers residency fellowships to Vermont visual art and English teachers, providing them the space, time, and mentorship of other artists and writers, so they may fully focus on their own creative process, to further their teaching of art once they return to the classroom.
