Arista Alanis' No Artificial Flowers

Posted on April 6, 2011 by Contact: G. Todd Haun, Gallery Coordinator

Arista Alanis Exhibition at VSC’s Gallery II

The Vermont Studio Center presents No Artificial Flowers: Recent Work by Arista Alanis, April 10 through 28 in Gallery II on the first level of the Wolf Kahn Building on Pearl Street in Johnson. Studio Center gallery hours are daily 9 AM to 5 PM.

The public is welcome to join VSC staff artist Arista Alanis at the opening reception on April 10 from 5:30 to 7:30PM.  Alanis’ work draws inspiration from nature and from the Vermont landscape in all its seasons. The work is not about the specific places, but about significant moments that ignite a feeling of being alive in the space. Alanis says, “… the formal structures of nature directly experienced, or recalled give my paintings the solid foundation upon which I improvise abstractions.”

Originally from Texas, Alanis has been on staff at VSC for the past 15 years. She holds an MFA from Louisiana State University, and a BFA from Texas Women’s University. She is currently the Community Arts Program Coordinator at the Studio Center.
