Amy Hempel is the author of four collections of stories, published together as The Collected Stories in 2006 by Scribner. It won the Ambassador Book Award for best fiction of the year, an award from the American Academy of Arts & Letters, was a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner Award, and received a United States Artists Foundation Fellowship. In 2008 she won the REA Award for the Short Story, and in 2009 the PEN/Malamud Award for the Short Story. Her work has appeared in such publications as Harper's, The Yale Review, The Quarterly, and the New York Times Magazine, and has been widely anthologized in Best American Short Stories, The Pushcart Prize and The Norton Anthology of Short Fiction. She teaches at Harvard and at Bennington College, and lives in New York City.
