Public Reading/Slide Talk Date: 11/27/2008

Born in the Mojave Desert of California, Forrest Gander grew up in Virginia. His first college degree was in geology, and earth science continues to inform his writing. His book A Faithful Existence is a lyrical exploration of what it might mean to be faithful-in acts of translation, scientific and spiritual inquiry, friendship, and poetry. His new book Eye Against Eye takes place as five long poems. He has translated numerous books including, with Kent Johnson, The Night by Jaime Saenz. Recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, Whiting Award for Writers, the Howard Foundation Award, National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships, and two Gertrude Stein Awards, Gander teaches at Brown University.
