Ellen Lanyon (b 1926, Chicago, IL) received a BFA from The Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from the U. of Iowa. She has had solo exhibitions at Printworks and Jean Albano Gallery in Chicago and the National Museum of Women in the Arts, among others. In 2000, she received a commission for Riverwalk Gateway Murals, a 336-foot long installation, Chicago’s largest work of public art to date. Her work is held in public collections at museums across the country, including the Art Institute of Chicago, Brooklyn Museum, Denver Art Museum, National Museum of American Art and the Metropolitan and MOMA, NY. She recently received an award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
