27th Annual Vermont Artists Week

Posted on January 13, 2011 by VSC

Applications due January 31, 2011. To apply, please download a copy of the application and mail it in along with your supporting materials. More information about application requirements can be found on our Vermont Artists Week page.

April 24 through May 1, 2011, will be the 27th year that Vermont artists and writers have been invited to spend a week at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, working uninterrupted in their studios. Vermont Artist Week was created in the first year of VSC as a philanthropic program to support Vermont’s creative community. The facility accommodates 50 visual artists and writers from throughout the state to come together for a week of intensive studio work and the fellowship of other Vermont artists and writers.

Eligible applicants should be working, exhibiting visual artists and writers, and must be legal residents of the State of Vermont. In order to serve as many Vermonters as possible, qualified artists and writers who have not previously attended Vermont Artist Week are given preference. Each artist and writer is given their own private studio, and access to equipment which includes hand and power tools, a forge, metal and woodworking machinery, welding equipment and ceramic kilns.

Residents are housed on campus in private rooms and share communal meals in the dining hall. Artists must supply their own materials and writers their own word processor. The Studio Store at VSC is a fully stocked art supply store selling several lines of paints, brushes, pastels, canvas, and papers at a substantial discount. Sculpture supplies are also available through the Studio Store and local businesses.

VSC offers the Vermont Artist Week, including room, board, studio space and interaction with Visiting Artists and Writers for $200. This fee, an expression of support for Vermont artists, represents a 75% reduction of the normal year-round VSC fees.  All participants are asked to assist in the operation of VSC by doing a work exchange of six hours. If you are a member of the Art Resource Association and demonstrate financial need you may qualify for the Phil Osgatharp memorial scholarship.

The Vermont Studio Center is grateful to all those who've made Vermont Artist Week possible, and would like to extend special thanks to the Vermont Community Foundation's Arts Endowment Fund, Peter and Bari Dreissigacker, and Studio Center alumni.
